Gas or Charcoal: The Debate Flames On

There are charcoal fans and gas fans. Those are the two sides people fall on. Each group swears by their method and will not use the other. So what is your preference? Charcoal or Gas? One thing is for sure is that there are diffrences in charcoal grilling vs. gas grilling. Seeing that most of us have thoughts on either a gas grill or a charcoal bbq grill, where do you stand?

Taste
People swear by charcoal as they say it adds that smokey open fire taste to the food. Gas grill people argue that cooking on charcoal does not matter any more because there are a lot of ways to add that same flavor without cooking over charcoal. Improvements have been made in gas and charcoal grills over the years. Charcoal grills now feature infused wood charcoal, and gas grill retailers have come out with ceramic flavors bars that act to catch what drips down from food and mingles with the surrounding smoke in order to enhance the overall flavor.

Who Wins the Environment Argument
Today you see eco-friendly products everywhere. Saving the environment has become a huge issue. Gas grills are environmentally friendly and charcoal grills are not. Charcoal puts off carbon emissions and gas is clean burning resource. If you don’t care about your carbon footprint then stick with a gas grill. Gas grills either use propane gas or natural gas. Propane is the more eco-friendly as it is renewable where natural gas is not.

Which One Wins The Convenience Argument?
Some people do not have the time that charcoal grills take to start up. So if you’re really looking to do less work the winner here is the gas grill. Most come with simple push-button ignitions and keep a steady temperature throughout the cooking process. But if you prefer the traditional approach of grilling and being able to vary the temperature even from one side of the grill to the other (though not as accurately), stick with charcoal.

Price
Hands down, charcoal grills are cheaper in general than gas. There are a variety of models and sizes that charcoal grills come in. There are top of the line charcoal grills that can be the same price as a gas grill. Gas grills also range in price insofar as what type of gas grill it is. Which grill has the most expenisve ongoing costs? A charcoal grill only requires you to buy a bag of charcoal every so often. Propane gas grills just need new propane tanks as the gas runs out. Natural gas grill never requires buying a bag of charcoal or a propane tank. You are always tapped into the gas line from underground. This will affect your energy bill. If you are looking for top level gas grills then have a look at fire magic grills.
